Maori Digital Art

Featuring in Series 2, Episode 9 – Friday 7th May 2010, 10.30pm on Maori Television.

Horahora was a village on the Waikato River that was flooded in the 1940s to create a new dam at Lake Karapiro.  Aniwaniwa is a sculptural and video installation created by two celebrated Maori artists – sculptor Brett Graham and digital artist Rachael Rakena.  It tells the story of Horahora and was the first exhibition in New Zealand history to be chosen for the collateral events section of the 52nd Venice Biennale, the world’s oldest international contemporary art exhibition.  We caught up with Brett and Rachael to find out more about their multi-media creation…
